Migrating output to static site

Does WordPress produce static pages in a complete directory? I have a personal hosted site that has php/mysql and I’d like to test WordPress on this site. I also have a cheap hosted site attached to another domain that doesn’t have php/mysql. As an interim measure, can I copy out the HTML pages from WordPress and put them in the static hosted site? ie does it need an active database backend to find and serve completed pages to users or are all site pages static and fully linked once created?
