• Hey there.
First of all i’d like to say that im newbie to this whole blog stuff, but i’m trying pretty hard to comprehend everything that i read here. So be patient please xD

    So…
I’m using Bluehost and i’ve installed wordpress 3.1 (which i guess is the latest version so far) through Simple Scrits. Ok that part was incredibly easy. It automatically created a database with all the files i need.
But to be honest, i was quite confused when simple scripts asked me where would i like to install WordPress since the only option it gave me was to install in my current website, which is hosted in wordpress.com.
I checked the FTP file manager and all the wordpress files are located in my current blog folder.
Ok, now here is my big question…
I’m using wordpress.org because i want to host my blog in my own web server, right? So, why it keeps installing files in that folder? I do have a blog hosted in wordpress.com, but i DONT WANT anymore.

And because of that, everytime i try to access my admin panel (i used that shortcut website.com/wp-admin) i’m redirected to wordpress.com…
AHHHHHHHHH. I don’t know what to do. Someone please shine a light on me. All i want to do is find this admin panel =( i’m stuck in wordpress.com.

    Thank you.

  • It sounds like your domain name is currently redirecting to your old wordpress.com site. Try asking your hosts for assistance resetting the re-direction.

Ok. I just talked to bluehost support and they gave me a nice explanation.
I’ll copy and paste here because i know that many noobs (like me) might have the same problem.
    Here it is…

Pedro: [6:27:56 PM] hi. I’m having some serious issues here with my domain name. Im using bluehost to install wordpress files. After i install it, i try to access my admin panel by typing http://www.mywebsite.com/wp-admin. The problem is that my domain here in bluehost has the same name of my previous blog, which is hosted at wordpress.com Everytime i try to access the admin panel, it redirects me to wordpress.com, and actually im working with the wordpress.org files. How can i fix this?

    Lonny: [6:30:50 PM] One moment.
[6:34:22 PM] It looks like your domain is not pointing to our server.
[6:34:35 PM] You’ll need to update your name servers or change your A record to point to us for us to host the site.
[6:34:38 PM] Our name servers are ns1.bluehost.com (74.220.195.31) and ns2.bluehost.com (69.89.16.4). When changing these, it may take 1 – 2 days for these changes to reflect from your location.

Pedro: [6:36:40 PM] Ok. I’m very new to this whole thing. How exactly do i update my name servers?

Lonny: [6:37:39 PM] You contact the company you bought your domain from and give them the name servers above.

Pedro: [6:39:32 PM] So. I contact wordpress.com and i tell them those names? I see that bluehost and wordpress have some partnership. I just contact them and tell to update the name servers?

    Lonny: [6:40:32 PM] Exactly.

Pedro: [6:41:17 PM] Ok. thank you very much. I guess i understood

Lonny: [6:41:21 PM] Not a problem. 🙂 Have a nice night!
[6:41:22 PM] Thank you so much for contacting support, and please let us know as you have additional questions in the future.

Well I checked the wordpress.com support for information about changing nameservers and i found this: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/domain-management/

But i still have a question. If i want to make complete changes in my blog (like installing themes), i have only to change nameservers or i have to completly transfer my wordpress.com Blog to my own web server?

Thanks for the help. I hope someone answer to this cause i’m still a bit lost 😉

    pedrovonb,

Once DNS changed to bluehost, your website will be hosted there. It means that if I want to see your-domain.com, I’ll see the files hosted at bluehost. So yes, you’ll need to transfer your wordpress blog to bluehost and you’ll be able to make any changes there, like themes, plugins and other stuff.
