Username/Password incorrect – update plugins
-
I am having problems updating my comments and updating my plugins. When I attempt to update a plugin I am asked for my connection Information, which includes the following:
Hostname
FTP Username
FTP Password
Connection TypeI am hosting my site on my own server which uses Ubuntu Linux 10.10.
I just reinstalled Ubuntu last week and got my website up and running and it was running fine up until a couple of days ago. For the last couple of days I have been attempting to install an FTP server and updating security updates for Ubuntu.
So the problem I have is that my credentials for wordpress are not working. I have used many usernames and passwords to allow wordpress to update the plugins.
I have also checked the permission settings of the directories within my website. I noticed that all of the directories had permission set to 777 some how. I did not do this… I think the system did somehow. So I set the permission for all directories inside wp-content to 755.
At this point I have the following settings:
Hostname: localhost (I have used the database name, external IP, internal IP) I think localhost is correct as I can access the site using http://localhost/website.
FTP Username: I have used a virtual host name, system host name and superuser.
FTP Password: I have verified that the password is correct.
Connection Type I have tried both FTP and FTPSI am not sure what the problem is. I double checked my other websites on the same machine and it looks like they are all suffering the same problem. Each website uses a different database and file location.
Any ideas what might have caused this?
Any ideas how to fix it?
