How to conver a php based website into wordpress

    Hi guys,
    I am new at wordpress before I have been using joomal cms mostly for my sites well recently I have got project to convert a php based site into a wordpress based as it is completely based in php so its a bit confusing me that how to convert it into wordpress its quite easy to convert html base sites into wordpress but in php it sucks.
    can somebody please let me know that what steps should i take to do thi stask.
