Hi! I want to use a static page as ‘Welcome’ and add another page for the blog. When I change the settings>reading>static to the settings I want, with new pages named and added appropriately, the original “home” page stays. I understand that I need to add a template page.php but have never written css before. Is there some kind of ‘copy and paste’ option available somewhere?

    Thank you so much!

  • What you actually need is ‘index.php’ – this is automatically the default template template to show posts – and a file called somthing like ‘page-home.php’. What I’d suggest is that if you are using a downloaded theme, copy the index.php file and rename that the ‘page-home.php’, then you can edit that file as you need to create your home page.

Then, under pages in your WP create one called ‘Home’ and one called ‘Blog’ (or what ever you want to call the page that contains your blog posts).

Finally, go to ‘Settings -> Reading’ and set your Front page to ‘Home’ and your Posts page to ‘Blog’ (or what ever you called it.

Sorry for the delay, but oh boy, it really worked. I’m learning the ropes slowly and your explanation was wonderful.

    Thank You so much!!!
