"Master" Administrator Setting Needed

    – I am the Administrator to a site I own.
    – I have a contractor who I want do anything to the site other than to control Users. I and only I or my assignees should be able to control Users. If I make the contractor an administrator they have complete control as far as I can tell.

    WordPress needs a Master Administrator classification so one like me can manage all users even those with full design, coding, editing permissions. I cannot imagine any responsible company giving complete control to any employee or contractor. This is a very important issue we need to be resolved before continuing to continue commitment to a relatively large WP undertaking. Thank you for your help.

    “Administrator,” in most applications, generally means just that. The Administrator.

    There are lots of plugins available for managing roles and capabilities.

    Maybe you could create a new role and assign just the capabilities you want to it with this plugin.
