• I think WordPress and ComicPress are the bees knees. They make me look smart but I’m just a dumb artist and want to drive these applications the way some people drive cars – without knowing the first thing about how they operate. Mea culpa. I switched from West Host to Blue Host and have since lost my beloved ComicPress. The blog is still there but the red C is no longer available on my WP manager page. I am overwhelmed and considering just printing my comics on paper like I used to do.

  • Most basic question first. When you moved hosts did you actually install Comic Press or just assume it would be there?

If you installed it did you get an error message?

I thought it would come along with the rest of the transferred site. So no, I did not reinstall it. Installing it the first time (in 2009) was a nightmare and I still don’t really get how it was done so could not repeat it.

That would depend on what you mean by “transferred”. If you did a clean install of WP on the new server then CP wouldn’t be there. It is a Theme and they need to be installed separately. If you did a back-up of all the WP files on your original server and then copied those files onto the new server then yes the CP files should be there, in which case it would just be a matter of enabling the theme in the dashboard.

I notice from glancing at the comic press forums http://comicpress.org/forum/ that there are several plugins made to go along with it. If you were using any of those in your previous install you will need to make a note of which ones and install those too.

It shouldn’t be. Adding a theme or a plugin to WP is just a matter of copying the files to the Theme or Plugin directory on the server and then enabling them in the dashboard.

At this point what I know is that despite a WP file visibly lurking in my personal web site directory, the only way I can access WP is through a link to the external WP site. I no longer have CP in my WP directory. I have downloaded and unzipped the CP file and have been unable to copy them to the WP theme directory. Perhaps I do not understand the hierarchy of the files?

^ taking care of this one, wordpress was not installed on their new host is the issue.
