• a recent change has made it so admin access must be granted for export and import. I was previosly using user role editor to grant export. I need to allow non admin users the ability to export the site. My workflow is that editted can generate a backup when they do a bunch of work and if they need to roll back they contact admin to re-import the latest backup. Is there any way to give this access back without granting admin

  • Hi, this change is on purpose. In version 7.111 the plugin made export and import admin-only for security reasons (it’s listed under “Security” in the changelog), and 7.112 keeps it that way.

The reason is that an export file contains your whole database, including user password hashes, so the plugin now requires the administrator capabilities (export and manage_options) to create one.

You could give editors manage_options, but that effectively makes them administrators, so I wouldn’t recommend it. A safer way is to have an admin create the backup when it’s needed, or to use your host’s backup tool.

Is this a single site or a multisite, and do your editors also need to import? Let us know, and please mark the topic as resolved if this answers it.
