A few updates for my 11+ year old plugin…
Version 3.3.2 of The Hack Repair Guy’s Plugin Archiver is now available. It is a large step up from 3.1.1, so here is what changed.
New features
- Activity log: every archive, restore and delete is recorded with the date, the plugin name and the user. You can export it as CSV or clear it.
- Archive history: the Archived Plugins list now shows when each plugin was archived and how long it has been there. Plugins archived before this version show an estimated date marked “about”.
- Download as zip: download an archived plugin straight from the list.
- Random archive folder names: new archives use a random folder name. Existing archives get a “Secure this archive” button to rename them.
- Web-access protection: the archive folder is now better protected from direct web access, with a check on the settings page and a Site Health test.
- Read-only mode: if your site sets DISALLOW_FILE_MODS, the plugin respects it and won’t try to move files.
Fixes and polish
- Delete now asks for confirmation.
- No more doubled settings messages or “0 plugins archived successfully” notices.
- Unnamed archives are labelled “Archive” plus a few characters of the folder name, so you can tell them apart.
- Refused actions return a proper 403 response.
Upgrading
I tested the upgrade from 3.1.1 on a live site. Your existing archive and its plugins stay where they are. Nothing needs to be redone.
Thank you to the ten of you for using the plugin over the past 11 years. ;_)
