    Hey,

Thanks for reporting this and for clarifying that the issue occurs with wpDataTables Lite 6.6.1.1, while rolling back to 6.5.1.7 restores your website.

We ran some additional tests on our test environment using the latest wpDataTables Lite 6.6.1.1, WordPress 7.1.3, PHP 8.2.30, and the same 256 MB PHP memory limit shown in your error message.

So far, we haven’t been able to reproduce the issue. We tested creating and editing various tables, as well as loading front-end pages containing tables, and everything worked normally.

However, this doesn’t necessarily mean there isn’t an issue specific to your setup, so we’d like to investigate further.

First, could you please clarify a few things?

    • Does the fatal error occur immediately after updating wpDataTables Lite to 6.6.1.1, or only when you try to open a particular page?
    • Does it affect the entire WordPress website, including WP Admin, or only certain front-end pages containing wpDataTables?
    • If it happens on a specific page, is there a particular table or chart involved?
    • Which WordPress and PHP versions are you currently using?

The error you shared indicates that PHP exhausted its available 256 MB memory limit. However, the file referenced in the error (class-wp-fatal-error-handler.php) belongs to WordPress core and doesn’t necessarily identify what originally caused the memory exhaustion.

If possible, please check your hosting PHP error logs for any additional errors leading up to this fatal error. A complete error log could help us determine whether the issue originates from wpDataTables, another plugin, or something else in the environment.

For further testing, I’d recommend using a staging website.

Since rolling back to 6.5.1.7 resolved the problem, you can keep your live website on that working version for now.

If possible, create a staging copy of your website, update wpDataTables Lite to 6.6.1.1 there, and check whether the same issue occurs.

This would allow us to investigate without risking downtime on your live website.

If you can reproduce the issue on staging, please contact our main support team privately.

You can follow this guide to open a support ticket:

    https://help.wpdatatables.com/en/articles/39-how-to-contact-support

Even if you’re using the free/Lite version, you can select the Pre-purchase/Lite questions option and refer to this WordPress.org forum thread.

This way, we can collect additional details, review your environment, and, if needed, investigate the problem directly on your staging website.

We’d certainly like to understand why the newer version causes this behavior on your setup, particularly since the previous version works correctly.

Thanks again for bringing this to our attention!

    Kind regards,
    Milos
