Webfinger error “Error getting JRD: 404 Not Found”

    I am setting up ActivityPub and webfinger on the site above. The WP in-built test on site-health.php shows no functional errors for ActivitPub. But the test on https://webfinger.net still returns an error

    JSON Resource Descriptor (JRD) null

    I`ve read through https://github.com/Automattic/wordpress-activitypub/issues/188 but this one is already closed, so this “working hack” with a .well-known/webfinger file should no longer be needed. Any idea how to debug this?
