[Solved] Missing conditional fields, failed submissions, and security error

My team ran into an issue with a WPForms form today that doesn’t seem to be documented very well online, so I’m posting the solution here in case it helps anyone.

Our site was loading a WPForms form via one of ElementorKit’s “WPForms” elements. Sometimes it worked fine, but other times it was running into a mixture of the following issues:

• The conditional fields weren’t appearing even when their conditions were true
• Submitting the form would sometimes take you back to a random step without any visible errors
• Submitting the form would sometimes display this error: “The form could not be submitted due to a security issue”

We tried disabling our caching plugin, flushing the server cache, and disabling Varnish, but none of those helped.

Instead, it turned out to be a conflict with Elementor’s element cache feature. The issue can be fixed by either disabling the element cache feature globally (Elementor settings > Performance) or by disabling it on the affected element in the Elementor editor (Element > Advanced > Layout > Cache Settings > Inactive).
