I use it just fine with PHP 8.5. The only real issue is that it doesn’t have REST API support which means mobile apps fail. I think ideally we’d do a complete rewrite for modern block editor but for simple short links this works well enough.
Thanks! I’m connecting to YOURLS on local sub-domain of site to generate shortcodes for long news item URLs, and have the Rest API disabled at the moment for security. Was more about checking code, as we are finally moving from 7.4x(tuxcare), to 8.3x.(8.5?)

You should be fine! I didn’t know people were still using PHP 7.4 in 2026 :).
FWIW, I use Query Monitor locally and no PHP Warnings on the general backend or frontend (might trigger a few warnings on submit but I haven’t noticed any issues or fatals so seems fine for basic short link generation.
Heh… yeah, our main business site (all our income) has news platform build in 2016, with heavily modified version of WordPress — some random stuff causes site to not work with PHP8. So, still on 7.4x with the Tuxcare solution that keeps it updated. In process of redoing theme on staging site, and prepping the plugins, and seeing if any of the plugins we use can be crunched into the custom functions code plugin we have. This one is kinda mission critical for us, so top of my panic list π
