Shipping cost

    Hi, there’s a problem. Since September 4, 2026, customers have been receiving order confirmation emails showing the shipping cost as “Free!” I’m using a shipping plugin (I’ve tried several – the issue is the same). In the settings – whether for the plugin or WooCommerce – there’s nothing anywhere related to free shipping. The customer pays for shipping based on the carrier’s rates. I can’t set an average shipping cost because the shipping cost depends on weight and volume, and I have products ranging from 100 grams to 100 kilograms. Before September 4, 2026, this field specified the shipping method.

    Previously: Shipping: Nova Poshta Branch Nova Poshta Branch.

    Now: Shipping: Nova Poshta Branch Free!

    Thanks for the context! it made this easy to track down. This isn’t coming from your shipping plugin, which is why switching plugins made no difference. It’s a change in WooCommerce 11.1.0, which came out on 3 September.

    With the newer email design switched on, a shipping method that costs nothing at checkout used to show its name twice in order emails. That’s the “Nova Poshta Branch Nova Poshta Branch” you had before. 11.1.0 replaced the second one with “Free!”, but it does that for any zero-cost method, including ones like yours where the customer pays the carrier on delivery.

    That has already been fixed so “Free!” only shows for the actual Free Shipping method, and the fix is due in WooCommerce 11.2.0:

    Until then, you can stop it without any code. Go to WooCommerce > Settings > Advanced > Features and turn off “Email improvements”. Your emails go back to the previous design, and the shipping line reads “Shipping: Nova Poshta Branch” with no “Free!”. I tested that on 11.1.0. Once 11.2.0 is out you can switch it back on. 🙂
