I’ve implemented 5.7.6 on two sites and the size of the backup file has gone down in both cases. Comparing the downloaded files reveals 5.7.6 skipped files and folders compared to the previous version. I’ve checked and those files and folders exist on the server.

Unfortunately, the change you made to the way logs are produced means I don’t have a detailed log, but it looks like a regression of this problem.

I’ve now analysed a backup and compared it to a detailed log. The log shows two restarts while backing up plugins. Every file and folder between the restarts is missing from the backup. That’s a worse problem than before.

The missing folders appear in the log. The missing plugins appear in the plugin list in the root folder.

I can provide more information via PM if you need it.

    Hi Andy,

Thanks for your patience on this.

Can you tell me if the size of your backups is large (larger than 2GB for example)?

At this moment, can you try to change the compression to tar.gz and increase max_execution_time value?

If these didn’t help, and if possible, can you try to change destination from ftp to some other service like Dropbox?

While these should be solved in the latest version of the plugin, I would need information if this helped in order to share with the team.

Also, if possible, can you tell me where are these sites hosted and if there is enough space on the disk available?

    Thanks!

    Both well under 100mB

Sorry, my process requires a zip file. I have reverted my sites to 5.7.5 as I can’t risk data loss.

I don’t use FTP. Files are stored locally and my process downloads the zip file from there

Sites are hosted on IONOS. Plenty of disk space available.

FWIW, the two sites that I upgraded to 5.7.6 and then reverted to 5.7.5 have different values for maximum execution time. One was set to 45 seconds, the other was set to 60 seconds.

    Hello @andyhenderson2,

    Thank you for the reply.

This is likely something very specific to the installation and would require a closer investigation.

In that case, please reach out through the support option in the plugin (bottom-right corner) or via:
    https://backwpup.com/contact/

We’ll be happy to investigate it further.

I’ve sent a support message and confirmed my email address.

Note that I have seen the issue on two different sites and for every backup made under 5.7.6. It is also very simmilar to the bug you fixed in 5.7.4. It’s easy to spot because backup sizes go down instead of up.
