• The recent Gutenverse Form plugin update to version 3.0.0 created multiple clones of a Form Action I created before the update. Before version 3.0.0, I had two Form Actions: one for capturing email addresses and one for visitor contacts. The email capturing form (Form ID 822) was used in three different patterns (i.e. 3 different form builders were all using the same form, ID 822)

After the plugin was updated to 3.0.0, clones of Form ID 822 were created for each pattern it’s used in. So I ended up having 4 identical forms, each have a different Form ID (822 and 3 other ones).

When I tried to update the Form Titles of one of the clones, instead of updating the existing form, I received the following error message:

    Form Action Required

This form action does not exist on this site. Create a new local form action so this form builder can work properly.

And “Create Form Action” appeared at the bottom of the error message. When I clicked “Create Form Action” to assign a form to the form builder, a new form was created.

So now I end up with even more forms, all essentially identical (clones) except for the Form ID.

The patterns/form builders that are supposedly linked to some of these clones continue to display the above error message “Form Action Required”. I can see a flash of Connected Form Action settings panel before the error message “Form Action Required” appears almost immediately afterwards and blocks the settings.

The patterns/form builders with this problem were created from duplicates of the stock newsletter sign-up patterns and templates (e.g. Gutenverse Home News) that came with the theme; I then made modifications to the duplicates to suit my needs and styles.

The newly created forms no longer send me notifications emails after submission. The forms I created prior to the 3.0.0 update are still sending me notifications of form submissions. I have WP Mail SMTP plugin installed and activated and it appears to be working.

I now have several orphaned forms I would like to clear out of my database. but I can’t find a way to delete a form unless it’s through the Connected Form Action settings. But if the Connected Form Action settings block is not shown, I have no way to delete any form actions.

Key Info about my WordPress install:

    — WordPress 7.1 running Kavana theme.

    — Gutenverse 4.0.7, Gutenverse Companion 2.5.2 and Gutenverse Form 3.0.6 installed and activated.

    — All plugins, Gutenverse and otherwise, are up-to-date.

    Hi @itpixie ,

Thanks for reaching out with these details.

Regarding the Form Action changes In version 3.0.0, we updated the form logic so that one form action can now only be assigned to one form builder. This one-to-one connection makes more sense as each form builder often serves a different purpose.

About the Duplication The cloning you observed is a fallback mechanism for older forms. When an existing form action is used across multiple form builders, we created a cloned version of the original form action for each duplicated form builder to maintain functionality. The settings and data should have been copied over, and the forms should work as expected.

To help us investigate further, could you clarify:

    • Share screenshots of the issues where the form is not working, is there any error shown.
    • Did the cloned/copied form actions end up with missing or incomplete data?
    • Is this issue occurring only with the stock theme patterns (like the newsletter sign-up), or does it happen when you create entirely new forms from scratch?
    • Any other clues that might help us

Once we have a bit more context, we can look into why the “Form Action Required” error is appearing and why the notifications aren’t sending for the new forms.

    Best regards,

    The Gutenverse Team
