Google maps stopped working
-
User reported that the maps have stopped working. The message to press arrow keys to move/zoom appears briefly (which I assume is coming from Google?) but the map doesn’t display.
I’ve checked the Google cloud account (which TBH I really get lost on!) and all appears to be okay but then again, not sure where to check. The API key in settings is correct.
We’ve got What3Words links on there so not the end of the world.
The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

I’ve removed the application restrictions in the API just to check if it’s that. Will report back if that makes a difference as Google says can take 5 minutes to act.
Later… no, that didn’t make any difference. Here is the HTML from the “Edit location” screen. Now I’m not an expert at HTML/CSS but I can’t see anywhere were the co-ordinates are been passed to Google?
PS. one has to download the above HTML file as it won’t render in the SharePoint viewer.
I’ve added a test page using code from ChatGPT as a test of the key and that works:https://bollingtonwalkingfestival.co.uk/maps-test/

Rolling back fills me with dread as we’re in the middle of selling tickets on the events. It’s exactly this reason why I usually freeze updates whilst selling tickets on events. However, one of the other admins ran the updates without checking. I might just leave maps off as the festival ends next weekend.
Always good to know one is not alone with a problem.

Can you tell me what version you had upgraded *from*? There are changes in the maps library in 3.8, but if you had already updated to that, then that’s not necessarily relevant.
We only keep 7 days of backup but we were running 3.5.21 29th Aug and upgraded to 3.6.17 on 31st Aug.
Just spotted there is v3.8.4 so I’ve just updated to that. Still not working.

Did you possibly look at your past DB version, not your installed version? Because 3.5.21 was released in December 2024, and if you were still running a 2 1/2 year old version a week ago, then that opens up a lot of potential ground for issues.
Version 3.6.17 was released in late 2025, so that would be better, although still potentially means that you skipped an entire major version cycle with 3.7.
But if you were looking at database schema changes, that is a bit different.
