Is there anyway to implement chunking in uploads with larger files? Many services like Cloudflare + a lot of web hosts have limits to file sizes that can be uploaded per request.

    Hi Richard,
Good news: the plugin already does this, and it has for a long time. There is nothing to enable
    and no setting to configure.

Every upload is split into chunks in the browser and reassembled on the server, so the file
never travels as a single request. The chunk size is worked out from your own server’s limits –
it takes the smaller of post_max_size and upload_max_filesize and stays just under it – and it
is capped at 10 MB regardless. So no matter how large the file is, no individual request the
plugin makes will exceed 10 MB, which sits comfortably under the per-request limits that
    Cloudflare and most hosts enforce.

A few details that may be relevant to what you are planning:

    • If a chunk fails – a dropped connection, a timeout, a proxy hiccup – it is retried on its own,
up to five times, rather than restarting the whole file.
    • Since version 1.3.5 each chunk is acknowledged explicitly by the server, and the reassembled
file is checked against the size the browser reported before it is accepted. A chunk that
silently went missing can no longer produce a truncated file.
    • This is in the free version too, not just the premium one.

One thing worth being clear about: chunking removes the per-request limit, not every limit. The
total file size is still bounded by whatever maximum you set for the upload field itself, and by
the disk space and execution time on your server. But the specific problem you describe – a
proxy or host refusing a large single request – is exactly what this handles.

If you are hitting a specific failure with a large file, tell me the file size and roughly where
it stops and I will look at it.
