A text book told me to go to this website to download tutorials etc. The website returns ‘critical error’.

That’s an issue for the site’s admin to resolve, there’s nothing we can do here to resolve it (unless the site’s admin contacts us themselves). Consider locating an alternative source for tutorials such as learn.wordpress.org
