Cannot download the backup archive

    Every time I try to download the backup .tar, network connection is interrupted. I set execution time to 3600 seconds already, but after 30 secs, I get disconnected. Downloading works perfectly in AIOWPMAB plugin (but I’m on multisite), so I assume it is a problem how download links are handled in your plugin.

    Could you please check whether you’re able to download the same .tar backup directly from the server, for example through your hosting File Manager/cPanel or via FTP?

    Also, does this happen only when downloading larger backups, or do you experience the same issue with a small database-only backup as well?

    This will help us determine whether the interruption is related to the backup size/server connection or specifically to the download through BackWPUp.

    • ftp download works.
    • DB tar download works (156MB)
    • The one failing download is db and data (3.73GB)

    Since the 156 MB database backup downloads correctly and the issue only occurs with the much larger 3.73 GB backup, this seems to be related to handling the large download rather than the backup file itself, especially since you can download the same file successfully via FTP.

    A few things you can try:

    • Try downloading it using a different browser or an incognito/private window, as browser caching for that site or connection handling can sometimes affect large downloads.
    • Check the PHP limits on the server, particularly max_execution_time and memory_limit, and try increasing them if possible.
    • If your hosting uses LiteSpeed Server, ask your hosting provider to check the maximum dynamic response/body size and related timeout limits. Server-level restrictions can interrupt large downloads even when smaller files work correctly.

    For now, downloading the large backup directly via FTP is also a safe workaround since you’ve confirmed that works correctly.
