    A naive suggestion. Could the plugin have an option to add the required first line of <?xml version=”1.0″ encoding=”utf-8″?> to an existing file. It could then check the SVG file, and reject the addition when the SVG was not suitable, and tell the user. (AI suggested to me that I just add this line using a text editor)

    Thanks for your suggestion!

    Unfortunately, WordPress won’t allow SVG files without an <?xml declaration because of its security restrictions. You have to add that line manually.
