• Hi, when used with self-hosted videos, does the plugin contact any external hosts (eg for statistical purposes), does it collect any information from the system it’s running on, either on the front end or in admin? Thanks!

    Hi @tschwarz-1

Thanks for asking. For self-hosted video, Presto Player doesn’t contact any external host, the video file and all player JS/CSS (including HLS.js) are served directly from your own WordPress install. The only external connections are the YouTube/Vimeo embed blocks, and only if you use those instead of self-hosted video.

On data collection: nothing is collected from visitors on the frontend, and playing a self-hosted video triggers no data collection at all. In wp-admin, there’s an optional usage-tracking opt-in (off by default, only activates if you click “Happy to help!”) and an optional NPS survey, both purely site-level telemetry with nothing tied to video playback.

Note: Presto Player Pro’s analytics feature does track per-visitor watch data locally in your own database, but that’s Pro-only and not present in the free plugin.

Let us know if you have any other questions!
