Adding a "Thanks for your comment!" message above comment

I’d like to add a message after someone makes a comment, but I’d like it to appear somewhere in the comments template, perhaps above the comment form – I don’t want to redirect them to another page. I’d like to do essentially the same thing that is being done here. Does anyone know what code I need to put into comments.php to make this happen? Any help would be much appreciated – thanks!
