past-due action wp-cron

Good morning,
I have an “action_scheduler_run_recurring_actions_schedule_hook” that should be scheduled every 1 day, and when I set it to every 2 days, it tells me it hasn’t been run (so I have to start it manually).

It’s the first one:

Other actions are processing correctly.

How can I resolve it?

From the screenshot, I can see that other scheduled actions are continuing to run normally, which indicates that Action Scheduler and your site’s cron system are generally working as expected. If there were a broader issue with WP-Cron or Action Scheduler, we would typically expect to see multiple overdue actions rather than just this specific hook.

Could you clarify how the schedule for action_scheduler_run_recurring_actions_schedule_hook was changed from 1 day to 2 days? Was this done through custom code, a plugin, or some other customization?

I’d also like to confirm: if you change the schedule back to 1 day, does the action start running automatically again, or do you still need to manually run it when it becomes due?

we didn’t changed manually, maybe sone plugin added for other functions.

It’s already every 1 day, not 2 days like you wrote up there (it’s programmed to be done 1 day and 9 hours ago 2026-07-13 22:34:15).

Maybe it’s that plugin:

it cleaning cache etc every day. I tried to stopped it so I can discover if it is that automation.

Thanks for the clarification, that’s helpful, and good thinking to test by deactivating Advanced Database Cleaner to isolate the cause.

Since the interval is confirmed to still be the default 1 day, and this wasn’t a manual change, the “past-due” status showing while other actions process normally makes more sense in the context of a plugin potentially interfering with Action Scheduler’s data or timing, rather than a scheduling configuration issue on your end.

Advanced Database Cleaner is a reasonable suspect. Plugins like this typically clean up transients, orphaned postmeta, revisions, and sometimes scheduled/cron-related data as part of their automated cleanup routines. If it’s running its own cleanup on a schedule and touching tables that Action Scheduler relies on (wp_actionscheduler_actions, wp_actionscheduler_logs, or related options), it’s possible it’s inadvertently clearing or disrupting the record for this specific action right around the time it’s due to run and reschedule itself, especially since this hook’s job is to reschedule itself, any interference at the wrong moment could leave it stuck without a valid next-run entry.

Since other scheduled actions appear to be running normally, I’d recommend keeping the plugin disabled for a short period and monitoring whether the action_scheduler_run_recurring_actions_schedule_hook action continues to become overdue. If the issue no longer occurs, that would suggest the plugin may be involved.

Please let us know what you find after testing. If the action still becomes overdue with the plugin’s automation disabled, we’ll be happy to investigate further.

Yes, that’s a reasonable next test. Once you’ve confirmed whether the past-due status stays resolved with Advanced Database Cleaner off, re-enabling it but moving its run time from 5am to 2am (or any hour further away from when action_scheduler_run_recurring_actions_schedule_hook is actually due to run) will help confirm whether the two were colliding on timing.

One suggestion: test it in two separate steps rather than together, so the result is clear:

First, leave the cleaner off for a few days as planned and confirm the hook stops going past-due on its own.
Only after that’s confirmed, re-enable the cleaner at the new time (2am) and monitor again for a few days.

That way, if the issue comes back after step 2, you’ll know it’s tied to the plugin running at all rather than just the specific time it runs; if it stays resolved, the new time was enough to avoid the conflict.

Whenever you have results from either step, let us know and we’ll go from there.
