• Hi!

I installed two instances of WordPress 1.5 on my website last night and it’s working great.

On the first one, I post short entries, and WP is really quick, it takes like half a second and the post is already on the site. On the second one, I need to post longer entries, with a lot of links in them. When I try to post an entry, it takes about 5-10 minutes and then tells me error 500 or something like that.

I tried to post a shorter entry on that second blog (the one that won’t work), and everything works great. So I think it may have to do with the length of the post. I looked in the support section, and it says the limit is 65 000 something characters, so that’s not it.

Do you think it might have to do with my hosting server? Maybe they limit the number of characters in an entry?

    Thanks for you help.

When you’re dealing with posting a large number of links, it could have to do with a multitude of things. First and foremost would always be the server in this situation. More than likely your server has a timeout period set for PHP processes. Assuming that you have a multitude of links and WordPress must ping all of those links in the post, then you may pass that timeout period before WP can finish pinging all of the links.

Oh, so can I tell WP not to ping each of those sites? Here’s the error 500 the site just gave me. Enjoy.

    Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, *******@gmail.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Is it Discussion Options: “Attempt to notify any Weblogs linked to from the article (slows down posting.)”

If you see the error again, you may want to check your server error log.

Ok, I have the error log right here, but I have no idea how to read it. So you’re telling me there’s no way to stop WP from pinging every website I link to in a post? Earlier posts (that were just as long) posted just right. It took them a while, but it worked.

De-selecting the option, “Attempt to notify any Weblogs linked to from the article (slows down posting.),” should work. For some it just doesn’t, I’m not sure why. To decipher the server error log, I’d need to see the entries which occurred around the same time you saw the 500 error. Basically, a 500 error means, “The actual error has been entered into your server error log.”

I just got the same error, even with the option de-selected. I logged off and back in, same thing. I tried a shorter post and it worked.

Tried it again from a computer at work and it’s still not working. Any ideas?

Even after an error, some posts still show up inside the WordPress admin panel. They even appear on the blog itself (at http://www.bulkys.com/connexion/). So they get published sometimes, and most of the time they don’t. But still get an error either way. The pinging option I disabled earlier is still disabled.
