Custom sorting order for images

Hello team, is it possible to sort gallery images by a custom field (e.g., date taken from EXIF data) instead of just upload date or manual drag order? I’m managing a photography portfolio with several hundred images and manual sorting is becoming impractical. If this isn’t currently supported, would it be something considered for a future update? Thank you.
