On our site we have a lot of decorative images, which require blank/null alt=”” attribute for accessibility purposes. However, the media doesn’t appear to save properly when the alt attribute is deleted, like so:

    Then, reloading the page:

The alternative text reappears, as if it had never been saved.

In case my screenshots don’t upload properly, here’s what they are:

    1. A picture of the alt text and title in the Media Library. There’s some text in both
    2. A picture of the alt text after it’s deleted, along with a small “Saved” indicator
    3. (After reloading) A picture of the alt text and title as they were in the first screenshot, despite having deleted the alt text and it supposedly being “saved”

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi,

Thank you for reaching out and reporting this!

I want to make sure I completely understand the issue so we can get it fixed for you, but I’m having a little trouble replicating or visualizing exactly what’s happening.

Could you provide a bit more detail, or ideally, share a quick video recording (using a tool like Loom for example) showing the exact steps you take when deleting the alt text and what happens when it fails to save?

    Also, please let me know:

    • Are you deleting the alt text from the Media Library or directly inside a specific page/post editor?
    • Which version of WordPress and our plugin are you currently running?

Once I can see exactly what’s happening, I’ll be happy to dive right in and help you sort this out.

    Best regards!

    Hi @rodicaelena,

Here is a link to the screen recording: https://youtu.be/yxnfTWnLMgc

The “alt” text is deleted, the media library shows “Saved”, and then when the page is reloaded the alt text is exactly what it was before being deleted. It’s within the media library as opposed to the page/post editor

    Hi,

Thank you for sharing the video. It was very helpful.

For the moment, I’m not able to replicate the issue. For me, changing/deleting the alt text works well.

I would suggest you first test for a potential plugins conflict, by following the steps presented here to temporarily activate just the Media Library plugin https://docs.themeisle.com/wordpress/theme-doesnt-work-as-expected-troubleshooting-guide

Let us know how that goes.

    Thank you!

Thank you for checking. As it turns out, it was the Slim SEO plugin automatically generating image alt text. I have disabled that feature and the media library works as expected
