Hi, I’m just beginning to build a WP site. I’m on the Go Daddy hosting platform. My question is: If I install a theme and a few weeks from now decide I want a different theme can I change themes or will it be too late? Same question on templates. Thanks!
Yes, you can absolutely change themes anytime. WordPress keeps your posts, pages, and media separate from your theme, so that content stays safe no matter what theme you switch to.
Just keep in mind:
Menus, widgets, and theme settings may need reconfiguring
If you’re using a block theme (Full Site Editing), template changes are part of the theme. Siwtching themes will swap those templates, but your actual page content remains.
If you’re using a page builder like Elementor, etc. generally stays intact, but layout might look different until you adjust it for the new theme.
Thank you very much. I just installed Astra theme and went to install a template via ‘starter templates’ but it’s asking me to choose between Block Editor and Elementor. I was trying to see the difference. Looks like Elementor would be the best for someone who is brand new to WP and has no idea what they’re doing? It’s the easier of the two? I’m trying to build an affiliate marketing website. The big thing I need is a search feature. I have a website now but it’s a paint-by-number non-WP site and can’t accept an add-on that would give me a search feature. My site will be photo-heavy, product-description-heavy, link-heavy and page-heavy. Thanks again.

Block Editor, go for it. It’s lighter, built-in, and keeps your site lean, ideal for a photo-heavy site. Elementor feels easier day one, but it adds bloat and can hurt performance if you’re not careful. Block Editor has a small learning curve, but with Astra and its ready-to-use page patterns, it should feel easy right out of the gate.
Thanks again for your help. I ended up going with Elementor as it looked a little easier and it sounded like I could see my site as it’s being developed. It’s very difficult to understand though.
