Logging UI could be clearer
-
Hi Simply Static team,
First of all: I really like the idea of static WordPress sites. Simply Static is a very interesting plugin and I’m currently testing it on a small WordPress site.
I do have some feedback about the logging UI on the main plugin screen during builds.
The activity log can be quite slow to update. Sometimes there are several minutes without any visible change, which makes it hard to tell whether the build is still running normally or whether it has stalled.
It would be helpful if the plugin showed more frequent activity/status updates during the build process, even if it is just a short message ‘I am alive’ indicating that the export is still running.
I also found the “Clear Log” button behaviour a bit confusing. After using Clear Log, the activity/export log below still appears to contain entries. My impression is that there may be two separate logs, or perhaps even three since the screen also mentions a debugging log, but that is not very clear from the interface.
Perhaps this could be simplified into a single visible log, with an option in the settings to include more detailed debug/export notices when needed?
So my feedback/questions are:
- Could the activity log show more frequent “still working” style updates during longer build steps?
- Could the UI make it clearer which log is being cleared?
- If there are indeed multiple logs, could they be labelled more clearly?
Thanks and keep on rocking,
Erik
