I support some sites on Cloudways. They run a security product called imunify360 on all sites. I’ve found various claims that (a) it provides better protection than Wordfence since it runs at the server level (rather than application level), and (b) it makes Wordfence superflous. I’d like to hear Wordfence’s response to those claims.

    Thanks!

Hi @fssbob, thanks for your question.

Ultimately these forums are for addressing specific issues for customers of our free version, but I’ll try to touch on a few key points for you.

Imunify360 runs on a different layer to Wordfence, which we design for defense in depth by giving a layered approach to security with its range of features. We believe products like Cloudflare, Litespeed, Imunify360 and ModSecurity (to name a few) can richly compliment a WordPress site running Wordfence. How layered an approach is may depend on the value of the asset being protected.

Other protection on your server to prevent malicious actors even reaching the stage when PHP/Wordfence loads is a perfectly reasonable strategy for any security-conscious administrator.

Take a look at our Threat Intelligence and vulnerability research work if you’d like to learn more about how we protect the WordPress community outside of the plugin itself.

    Many thanks,
    Peter.

    Thanks, that makes sense.

I’ve depended on Wordfence for many sites for years, and will continue to do so on Cloudways.
