no more notify emails being send version 5.6.6
-
Hello BackWPup support team,
Since updating to the latest version 5.6.6 release date: March 05, 2026 no more notify emails are being sent by the plugin.
My notification setting was to always send me email. Not only when an error occurs.
I usually receive email every day with a subject like:
[SUCCESSFUL] BackWPup log 25-Feb-2026 03:02: Database
But since a few days no more emails have been sent by the plugin. Does anybody else have similar issues?
thanks and please keep up the good work you’re doing
greetings
Becki

Hi!
I am facing the same issue. Also I am not able to change/show the backup settings for my sites. Editing an existing backup job shows the general tab, but clicking on the menu step to edit the destination for example, nothing happens.
A fast fix would be amazing! 🙂
Hi @becki,
Thank you for your message.
I tested this on my end but was not able to replicate the issue. From the tests, the notification email is still being triggered after the backup completes.
For reference, here is a screenshot from SMTP logging showing the email being triggered after a backup run:
https://shottr.cc/s/1Jz7/SCR-20260310-m08.png
I would recommend checking the following:
- If possible, configure an SMTP plugin and check the email logs to see whether the notification email is being triggered.
- Try running a manual backup and see if the email notification is sent in that case.
- Check whether the issue happens only with scheduled backups or with both manual and scheduled ones.
This should help determine whether the email is not being triggered or if it is being blocked at the server/mail level.
Let me know what you find and we can continue troubleshooting from there.
Hello WPM Support Team,
thanks a lot for your reply and instructions on how to debug.
I will try your suggestions but it may take saome time as I got other things on my to-do list.
I will keep you updated 🙂
thanks again
& greetings
BeckiHello WPM Support Team,
a short update as I’m currently updating some WordPress Sites to version 6.9.3
During the process I do a manual backup with BackWPup
And I just received notification emails that the back was successfully done.
So manual backup the notify email ist working.
thanks, greetings
& keep up the good work you’re doing 🙂
BeckiHello Again,
I also see that automatic scheduled backups have somehow stopped since 25. Feb. 2026.
Mot sure what has changed since then?
Did do a WordPress 6.9.1 on the 6.Feb.2026
There was a BackWPup 5.6.5 Release date: February 05, 2026
So somehow the automatic scheduled backups stopped.
no wonder why I don’t receive notify emails.
thanks
& keep up the good work
BeckiHi @becki,
If manual jobs are working, the issue is not with the backup process.
Can you try changing the schedule of the backup jobs (for example changing the time or day and saving the job again) to see if the cron event registers properly. Also, if you have multiple jobs configured, please ensure there is enough time gap between the jobs so one backup can finish before the next one starts.
Let me know if it helps.Hello WPM Support,
yesterday while doing the WordPress 6.9.4 updates I also had a look at the BackWPup Plugin.
Deactivated the plugin, did install over the existing plugin, reactivated the plugin, did save the frequency of my two backup jobs. the daily database only and the weekly files and database backup.
did have a look of the cronjobs registered. yes, the backwpup jobs registered. Here’s a screenshot
https://beckspaced.com/fGuqcitTYEkbraHwF28057f6t1GUok/Screenshot%202026-03-13%20072115.jpg
But when having a look at the backups today no backups have been done during the night.
No notify email has been sent.
And the thing is it happened on all of the sites I manage. Some on my own linux server, other sites at other hosting companies.
So I’m really not sure why the backups are not working?
If you can share any insights on how to fix this I will be more than happy 🙂
Otherwise I will keep monitoring and inform you here.
thanks again & please keep up the good work you’re doing!
greetings
BeckiHi @becki,
Thank you for your reply and for sharing the details and screenshot.
This does seem a bit unusual, especially since the jobs appear to be correctly registered in WP-Cron but the backups are still not running and no notification emails are being sent.
To help us investigate this more thoroughly, it would be best if you could reach out to our plugin support team directly. You can do this from the Contact Support option available at the bottom-right inside the BackWPup interface.
That way the team can review the setup in more detail and help identify what might be preventing the jobs from running.
Thank you again for keeping us informed and for your patience while we look into this.
Best regards,
Hello @becki,
As I have not heard from you, I am closing this thread for the time being.
You are always welcome to restart this or contact us.
Best regards.
Hello WPM Support,
sorry for being a bit late but I was away for the weekend a couple of days.
Still no notify emails being send from the BackWPup plugin.
But today I deactivated, deleted and re-installed the plugin on 3 different sites on 3 different servers.
Reconfigured the plugin and settings and tomorrow I will know if the notify emails are being send out again?
I did receive a notify email on a manual run but this was also the case before.
So will let you know by tomorrow if it works again after a complete new install.
Thanks again & keep up the good work you’re doing
With best regards
BeckiHello WPM Support Team,
as I wrote yesterday I did deactivated, deleted and re-installed the plugin on 3 different sites on 3 different servers.
Today in the morning I did receive notify emails from those 3 sites and also received notify emails from some other sites which I did not touch at all.
There are still also some sites which don’t send out notify emails.
So it’s really hard to say what is going on or what is not going on?
I will keep on monitoring and let you know how it goes.
Thanks again & keep up the good work you’re doingWith best regards
BeckiHello WPM Support Team,
I’m reporting back on the issue of notifiation emails not being send. As I wrote earlier I did a deactivate, delete and reinstall of backwpup on 3 sites. After setting up the plugin 2 of the 3 sites started working again. 1 site was still not doing anything automatic. No backups and also no notify emails.
A day after doing this magically most of the other sites somehow started working again. Doing automatic daily backups and also sending the notify emails.
Today 2 sites were still missing and I just reinstalled the plugin and configured again. So I will see by tomorrow if all of my sites behave normally again?
Thanks again & keep up the good work you’re doingWith best regards
BeckiHi Becki,
Thank you for the update, and I’m glad to hear that most of your sites have started working again.
This does sound a bit unusual, and we would really like to take a closer look to understand what might be causing this behavior.
If you get a chance, it would be helpful if you could reach out to us directly so we can investigate this more thoroughly on one of the affected sites. You can use the Contact Support option available within the plugin (bottom-right in the UI), or reach us through our support page.
That way, we can review the setup in detail and try to identify the root cause.
Thanks again for keeping us updated, and I’ll look forward to your message.
Best regards,
