New thread created in relation to the issue we are having with product export into Reddit, as requested. As mentioned we received the following error when trying to import our product into Reddit – “Description is invalid. The Description seems to have some HTML code in it. Please remove any code or script from the Description to resolve the issue.” Further details below:
Product description is just using standard HTML tags – just these: <h3> <u> <a href>
Created using standard product editor within WordPress: post.php?post=10&action=edit
We have an SEO plugin but the product CSV file created by Reddit doesn’t show any unusual HTML
In addition, it appears that the plugin isn’t handling product variations at all. The CSV file has one row of data even though the product has three variations. Furthermore the stock level shows “out of stock” even though two of the three variations are in stock.
A link to our site (specifically the product page) is included above. This page includes the 3 variations of the product. A screenshot of the CSV export is shown below.
Let me know if you need any further details.

Thank you for reaching out and for the detailed explanation. I understand that issues like this can be tricky, so I’ll clarify a few things below.
First, regarding the product description: even though you added HTML tags in the standard description field, these tags can cause problems when integrating with third-party services such as Google for WooCommerce, Facebook for WooCommerce, Pinterest for WooCommerce, or Reddit for WooCommerce. It’s best to keep the description plain text, or use the built-in editor options for formatting (like bold or headings). Custom HTML tags are not supported and may lead to issues.
As for the missing product variations, please let me know how you exported the CSV file. Also, please share a copy of the exported CSV along with your website’s system status report (WooCommerce > Status > Get System Report > Copy for Support). You can upload both via pastebin.com and send the links here.
Thanks for the feedback. The product description field’s editing interface natively permits all these HTML tags, so I suspect all third-party services need to accommodate them. We haven’t been manually adding any custom tags, they are just generated when using the built-in editing interface. Here is a screen shot of the interface.
Thanks for the detailed follow-up and for sharing both the feed URL and the system status report. That information is very helpful.
I’d like to clarify a couple of points, as there are two separate behaviors involved here.
Regarding the product description and HTML: While the WordPress product editor allows HTML formatting such as headings and links, many third-party advertising platforms, including Reddit, require descriptions to be plain text only. WooCommerce does not automatically strip or transform HTML based on the requirements of each external platform. If Reddit’s catalog validation is rejecting HTML, the description would need to be simplified specifically for that feed. This is a limitation of the platform consuming the data rather than the WooCommerce editor itself.
Regarding variations and stock levels in the Reddit feed: Based on the CSV generated from the Reddit catalog feed URL, the integration appears to export only the parent product as a single row. In that case, the stock status is taken from the parent product, which is commonly set to out of stock for variable products, even when individual variations are purchasable.
At this point, this suggests that the Reddit for WooCommerce integration does not support exporting variations as individual catalog items. Many advertising platforms require either simple products only, or each variation to exist as a separate product in WooCommerce.
To move forward, the key thing to confirm is whether Reddit’s catalog supports variable products with variation-level stock and attributes. If it does not, the recommended approach would be to list each variation as its own simple product for advertising purposes.
Thanks for the update. It’s not practical for us to change our description to plain text for the sake of one third-party platform. Our other advertising platforms (e.g. Google, Bing) are working fine although they do permit custom field mapping where required. Perhaps this would be a more elegant solution for the Reddit plugin? I.e. permit custom mapping for the description and other fields.
It’s also not practical to change our product setup to remove variations and use separate single products for each variation. Once again this setup is handled fine by our other third-party plugins.
I understand where you are coming from here and I can see how limiting it feels when your existing product setup and descriptions work well across other advertising platforms. Your points around custom field mapping for descriptions and proper variation support are valid, and I appreciate you taking the time to clearly explain what would make this integration more practical for your workflow.
At this stage, the best way to move this forward is to submit this as a feature request so it can be reviewed directly by the product and engineering teams. This helps ensure your use case and suggestions are formally tracked and considered for future improvements to the Reddit for WooCommerce integration. You can submit the feature request here: https://woocommerce.com/feature-requests/reddit/
Thanks again for the detailed feedback and for engaging constructively on this. Please let me know once you have submitted the request, or if there is anything else I can help clarify in the meantime.
Thanks for sharing your detailed feedback and for submitting the feature requests.
I’d like to mention that the product team reviews these requests regularly, but it’s important to set expectations: not every request is guaranteed to be implemented, as prioritization depends on demand, feasibility, and alignment with the roadmap.
If you run into any other issues or have further questions, please feel free to open a new topic. We’re always happy to help.
