    Hi there,

This is Gabe, frontend dev. of the site. I encountered issues on several of my sites where the settings or menu items on the backend are inaccessible (blank/grey).

    see screencast: https://youtu.be/vqXFrxGof9s

What I found and not sure if it helps, but – in the video you see 3 of my sites, 1 is fine, the other 2 have issues – when I click, for instance, “settings”, there is an extra code in the URL:

    • ?page=complianz&websitescan#settings
    • on other sites which are working fine, there’s no “websitescan” in the URL (like “riavita.com” in the video)
    • even if I manually delete the &websitescan part, and hit enter, it “comes back”

    Any help would be appreciated.

I deleted/reinstalled the plugin, tested in troubleshooting mode (no other plugins were active), same issue.

    Thank you for your help.
    Kind regards, Gabe

upd: unfortunately, with the latest v7.4.2 update, the backend is still not loading, however, the changelog says “Fix: Backend not loading due to missing dependency on WordPress versions lower than 6.6.”

    Kind regards
    Gabe

    Hi Gabe @geekayhu ,

Thank you for the detailed report and for sharing the screencast, that’s very helpful.
From what we can see, there seem to be two separate issues at play here:

    1. A redirect involving the ?page=complianz&websitescan#settings parameter might be forcing a specific state in the UI, though please note that we removed the forced redirect some time ago, so this behavior is unusual.
    2. The app itself not loading properly in the backend is likely the reason you’re seeing a blank or grey screen.

Here are a few suggestions that might help move things forward:

    • Could you provide a screenshot with the browser console open? This will help us check for any JavaScript or network errors that could explain why the app isn’t rendering.
    • Since you’re using SiteGround, it’s possible that their caching system is interfering with the plugin. Clearing the SiteGround cache might help restore proper backend behavior.
    • You mentioned being able to bypass the issue by manually removing the &websitescan part from the URL. In this case, we suggest going to Tools > Data in Complianz and enabling the option “Clear all data from Complianz on uninstall”, then saving. After that, perform a full uninstall and reinstall of the plugin to reset it completely, this may resolve the redirection and loading issues.

Let us know if you’re able to try these steps, and feel free to share any console output. We are here to help.

    Best regards,
    Antonio

    Hi Antonio,

Thank you very much for your quick response and assistance.

Based on your suggestion, I checked what may block the content (browser console), and I found the culprit. It was a bit strange because I have a Chrome extension “uBlock Origin Lite”, and it works on other sites without blocking Complianz (no issue with riavita.com in the video), but it does block Complianz on ceosz.hu (and on another – not SiteGround – site) I sent the issue about.

Just for reference, I took another screencast (with the console open):

As you can see, 2 sites don’t work with uBlock “ON”, but riavita.com does work with uBlock activated, that is why I did not think it could be a content blocker (still don’t understand why it works this way TBH).
There was a bit of a misunderstanding (“You mentioned being able to bypass the issue by manually removing”) –> NO, I wasn’t, just tried, but it rewrote itself. Anyway, does not matter now, since I just had to disable uBlock.

So, I guess it is resolved. Thank you for you time, and sorry that I did not realize this sooner, but as I mentioned, I wouldn’t have thought that once uBlock blocks, the other time it does not (strange).

    Kind regards
    Gabe

    Hello Gabe,

Thank you so much for your time and trust in looking into this.

AdBlockers like uBlock Origin is one of those content blockers that occasionally interferes with Complianz, though it doesn’t happen consistently across all sites. As you noticed, the best solution in those cases is simply to exclude Complianz from the extension or disable it.

I’m glad it’s all sorted out now, and again, thanks for the follow-ups, they were very helpful.
If you need anything else, feel free to reach out anytime by opening another thread.

    Best regards,
    Antonio
