Hi,
That’s unfortunate and definitely not expected.
Just to clarify, when you click or try to start a backup, does it not respond at all or does the page reload with no action?
Could you also check your browser console for any errors when you try running a job? Please share a screenshot if possible (you can hide any sensitive information).
This will help us check what’s happening and assist you further.
Thanks for getting back to me quickly.
If I click “Backup Now” I get the modal popup, then click “Start”. The button becomes disabled for a few seconds then the popup hides and the main screen is shown. I don’t get any console errors. There are warnings that seem to be related to the UI:
Found 5 elements with non-unique id #backwpupajaxnonce
Found 2 elements with non-unique id #js-backwpup-add-new-backup
Found 2 elements with non-unique id #js-backwpup-add-new-backup-form
Found 2 elements with non-unique id #new_db
Found 2 elements with non-unique id #new_files
I also tried clicking “Backup Now” on the scheduled backup job.
I have email Log Notifications turned on but have not received an email.
I am technical (not so much with PHP but with web sites dev and infrastructure in general) so please let me know if you have any pointers to dig into. Clearly something is going wrong but no error is displayed, which is odd.

Could you please check the server limits under WordPress Dashboard > Tools > Site Health > Info > Server and see if the values look reasonable?
If needed, try setting the timeout to 300–600 seconds and the memory limit to 256M or higher.
If the issue still happens, I would recommend reaching out to us directly so we can check this further, as we have not been able to replicate it on our end. In the meantime, you may also want to test with the latest v5.3.1 and see if that brings any improvement.
