I am using Proofreading 1.2.2 and receiving a “Translation ERROR” message when I attempt to analyze my post.

I write in English and I have Proofreading’s language set to English.

I deactivated the plugin and then re-activated it, but the problem remains.

    What should I do?

    Hi @nealumphred
Can you edit a plugin file to give me more informations?

You have to edit wp-content/plugins/proofreading/admin/js/proofreading-ajax.js file, and insert the line:
    alert(JSON.stringify(response))
    after the line (33):
    var response = JSON.parse(response_data.data.result);

Then press the analyze button in your post page and then paste here the result of the alert box.

    Thank you

Thanks for getting back to me.

I am using the current version of WordPress: 6.8.1.

The Proofreading plugin has not been tested with the current version of WordPress.

I have deactivated Proofreading and will try it again when it has been updated.

    Have a groovy weekend!

I think your problem is not related to the WordPress version.

You can try my test also with your new version.

I have six WordPress blogs, identical except for content. I installed the Proofreading plugin on all six and the plugin worked on all six at first.

It now appears to be working fine on five but not on the sixth: elvis-atouchofgold.com

I also get this message: Proofreading plugin is not yet Gutenberg ready. Please use Classic Editor plugin instead if you want a full compatibility.

I do not use Gutenberg and have the Classsic Editor plugin isntalled and activated.

So, why is it working on five and not on the sixth?

PS: I do not do any editing in my c-panel. If I need that, my host’s support does it for me.

Very strange that it works on 5 websites but not on the sixth.
Are these sites all on the same hosting? And is it hosted on a shared hosting or private server?

I suppose that something block the request to the third party service that manage the proofreading. Can you try to disable the other plugins and retry? especially plugins that deal with website security.

All six sites use the same theme and plugins and the same shared hosting. That’s why I didn’t think to deactivate all the plugins on the site where Proofreading was not working.

But, as per your suggestion, I did. Proofreading seems to have been misbehaving with the Newsletter plugin. But after I deactivated and reactivated Newsletter a couple of times, the issue seems to have worked itself out.

That is, all my plugins are activated (incuding Newsletter) and Proofreading is currently working fine.

    Thanks for your assistance!

    Keep on keepin’ on …

Spoke too soon: Proofreading plugin still working well on five sites but not on the Elvis site.

I deactivated ALL plugins except Proofreading and it still did not work.

I deleted Proofreading and downloaded it again and it still does not work.

I get the Translation ERROR message.
