I had a warning and also an email saying:
Heads up! There may be a problem with your connection to Square. In order to continue accepting payments, please disconnect and re-connect your site.
The problem is under square settings I get a spinning wheel and it never shows the settings.
I am able to access the Update tab, just not the settings.
I have tried deactivating all plugins except for woocommerce and square, changing php version, reverting to a standard theme, removing the connection in the square account. Have also removed the square plugin and re-installed it. Still same spinning wheel and I cannot connect it anymore. My host says there are no issues on their side.
Is there a way to clear all the square plugin settings from the database? Or other suggestions?

These errors only occur in the wordpress backend when I go to woocommerce – square – settings, If I deactivate either of those plugins, I would not be able to access that backend page. If I go to other backend pages, the errors are not there.

- Security plugins or server rules: If you’re using a firewall, security plugin (like Wordfence or Sucuri), or custom .htaccess rules, try temporarily disabling them and testing again. These tools can block requests needed to authorize or connect to Square.
- Caching/CDN services: Clear any server-level or CDN caching (e.g., Cloudflare), and disable page caching during setup if possible.
- Plugin conflicts: While you mentioned WooPayments is active, try temporarily switching to a default theme like Storefront and deactivating other plugins except WooCommerce and WooCommerce Square to rule out any conflicts.

Update for you, I was able to get back to the settings by making the site url and wordpress address the same. I like to keep wordpress in a subfolder and edit the index.php to make it the main url address. For some reason this prevented me from accessing the square settings page.
I had tried turning off the security plugin and turning off the Cloudflare CDN and neither was the problem, neither was any of the other plugins.
So I have linked the site again to square and before I switched the URL back to how I had it, this message was back again:

The connection seems ok as I was able to sync my products and on the checkout the credit card payment is back. I turned on debug log so I will see if that shows anything.

I totally understand that this didn’t used to show up before, so it’s definitely confusing when something changes unexpectedly. The good news is, if everything on your site is still working smoothly, there’s no immediate need to worry. That said, the mismatch could potentially cause issues down the line.
If you’re up for it, I’d recommend updating both URLs to be the same. After that, reconnecting Square is a good idea just to make sure everything stays in sync and runs without hiccups.
