W3 Total Cache is the only caching plugin I have installed on my wordpress instance. Lately, all scheduled posts have failed and show a “Missed Schedule” error afterwards. Some initial googling indicates the most likely cause is an issue with my caching plugin and/or cron.
Additional Info: I tried disabling W3 Total Cache to confirm that that was the source of the problem, then scheduled a post. It published successfully.
I then thought to try re-enabling the plugin and disabling settings one by one as noted in another similar post, but as it was re-enabled it started to work again. My guess is that it cleared the cache on disable and wiped whatever issue was preventing scheduled posts from publishing.
I’ve done this before (disable the plugin) and found that scheduled posts do work for a time, but after an indeterminate amount of time they always stop working again.
Thank you for reaching out and I am happy to help! Can you please share which caching method you are using for Page Caching? W3 Total Cache has some options that rely on wp-cron and this is mostly a Garbage collection schedule. However, as you mentioned, once the scheduled post is published we have an action that calls the cache purge for this.
If you experience the issue again, can you please manually purge the cache and let me know if the issue persists? Thanks!
Thank you for your feedback. W3TC should not cache wp-cron requests. Are you using Object Cachig or DB Caching by any chance and if so, can you please sahre also which caching method there is used and the advanced settings screenshot? Thanks!
Since disabling the cache and re-enabling it, I have not experienced the issue again. This has happened before and then the issue always reoccurs, but I totally understand you can’t troubleshoot an issue which doesn’t exist. I’ll re-comment here when this issue pops up again and hopefully we’ll be able to solve once and for all then!
Unfortunately, I’m back to let you know that my posts are again showing “Missed Schedule”. This is consistent with what I’ve experienced in the past. I have the issue, I clear the cache (after the issue occurs), the issue goes away for an indeterminate amount of time, but always resurfaces.
It’s such a strange issue – if I schedule a post for 2 minutes from now, it publishes normally, no issue. But when some of my users schedule blog posts for a date a few days in the future, they occasionally miss their schedules.
Do you have any thoughts?

Hello Marko – I’m happy to provide any information about my setup or logs. I see that this issue has come up a few times for other users, though it looks like they all stopped replying to you before a solution was made clear. I’d love to get to the bottom of why this is occurring if you have any ideas!
