Instagram Post Embed Issue

    Hi everyone!

    Using the normal Instagram post embed code, Embed Privacy essentially destroys my page layout. It seems to be able to display the Instagram post normally, but doesn’t understand that it does and also displays a secondary view with a link to the Instagram post, and somewhere between the two the layout is shredded.

    A workaround, displayed on top on the example page, which almost works is when I convert the Instagram embed code to blocks. This removes the <script async=“” src=“//www.instagram.com/embed.js”></script> part of the embed code from the main HTML embed block and instead embeds it as a second HTML block below the main one. That workaround, however, ignores the width value as seen on the example page.

    Playing around with the cache hasn’t provided a working solution.

    Hi @swuchristoph,

    unfortunately, I cannot reproduce the issue. By using an embed code directly from Instagram and implementing it within an HTML block, I cannot see an actual issue. This form of embed is currently not supported by Embed Privacy, but also doesn’t break the layout.

    Which editor are you using and how exactly did you embed it? A step-by-step guide is appreciated here.

    Hi Matthias!

    Thank you very much for looking into our issue.
    We’re using the Gutenberg Block Editor inside a Divi theme. The Instagram embed code has, in both example cases, been inserted into a standard Custom HTML block.
    So step by step, I’ve added a new post, used / to select the kind of block I wanted and selected Custom HTML, then inserted the Instagram embed code for the example Instagram post.
    I then added regular Paragraph blocks in between the Custom HTML blocks for the annotations you see on the site.

    There’s really nothing else to it, unfortunately.

    But since you’re saying that you’re not supporting this kind of Instagram embed with Embed Privacy, what kind of Instagram embed is supported?

    Can you share the full code of the editor here in a code block, please?

    The support of Instagram is mainly old posts, where an actual oEmbed provider for Instagram existed. However, Instagram stopped providing the oEmbed functionality a few years ago. As far as I know, you can only get it working properly by using third-party implementations. However, they are not necessarily supported by Embed Privacy.

    It’s not exactly the same but that’s pretty much it, yes.
    But your analysis seems to suggest that some other plugin is interfering, doesn’t it?

    Do you have any idea why it kind of works when I convert the embed code to blocks?

    An interfering plugin could be possible. Which plugins are you using?

    The markup is different when you convert the code to blocks, thus the system handles it differently (and especially separately as two blocks instead of one blob of code).
