• After recent auto update to core WordPress, any update to a plugin locks out site with “Maintenance Mode”. Never clears unless you delete the .maintenance file from root directory. Cannot update plugins or plugin updates will show failed.

    Check whether PHP errors occur during updates. In such cases, the maintenance file may still exist. You should be able to recognize this via the error log in the hosting or the debug.log with activated WordPress debug mode.
