I’ve installed wordfence (free) and downloaded the htaccess file successfully to optimize the firewall. However, I can not click on the continue button? It’s sort of a dulled out color. I’ve downloaded wordfence many times and I’ve never seen this issue? Since I can not click the continue button, I always have the “To make your site as secure as possible, take a moment to optimize the Wordfence Web Application Firewall” notice at the top??

    Hi @marketvex,

We sometimes see customers experience this if a theme or plugin conflict is affecting the JavaScript on our pages. If you disable all plugins except for Wordfence and revert to a default theme such as Twenty Twenty-Five, does the button become clickable? If so, you could always follow the optimization process at this point, but reenabling your themes and plugins one-by-one may reveal which plugin/theme is causing the conflict.

Let us know how you get on,
    Peter.

Thanks for the response. We went thru and deactivated all plugins one at a time but unfortunately that did not work. Tried switching to 2025 theme first but that did not help either. We are already using a very basic theme (hello elementor) and that doesn’t help either. Hopefully the firewall will still perform even though it can’t be optimized.

    Hi @marketvex,

You are still very well protected just by having Wordfence installed, but not having an optimized firewall will mean that WordPress and other plugins load before we can check for issues and make blocks. When optimized, Wordfence will run first, before anything is served to the browser.

We may be able to see why you’re unable to optimize by taking a look at your site configuration. Visit Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics. Click on “Send Report by Email”. Please add your forum username where indicated and send it to wftest @ wordfence .com.

NOTE: It should look as follows – Screenshot of Tools > Diagnostic > Send by Email

    Thanks,
    Peter.
