domain mapping

I was wondering if I would need to use the domain mapping facility on wordpress if I have already purchased two domains and have hosting?

Basically I am using wordpress to create and manage my website. I assume the domain mapping feature on wordpress is for people who just want a nice domain for their blog who aren’t using wordpress to host and manage a website like myself?
