Hi,

I please need help. I had an issue in the past with 2FA on my site which blocked me from being able to login to my WordPress site. The issue is the SSH that I was advised to use an SFTP Client to login to be able to disable plugins I installed. I have gotten a developer to help with this.

I can log into phpMyAdmin and disabled the two-factor authentication from there. I can still however not login to my site’s wp-login.php. It says invalid credentials. I used exactly the same credentials as before, email address and password and I keep getting the same error message.

I even clicked on ‘forgot password’, I do not get an email from WordPress and even with the host server as well but to no avail. Please help. Thanks in advance.

Follow the steps at https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/reset-your-password/#through-phpmyadmin to change your password directly in the database.

Along the way, you’ll see what the account’s email address is recorded as too.

If logging in with the same email address that is stored in the database and the new password doesn’t work, it’s possible that how you edited your 2FA plugin in the database broke something. Change that back and instead delete your 2FA plugin by accessing your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel (consult your hosting provider’s documentation for specifics on these).
