    Hi everyone,

I was creating a backup of my site, and at some point, an error was displayed. I waited several seconds, and the process resumed. I eventually received an email confirming the backup was successful.

How can I verify that the backup is complete and not corrupted? Are there specific steps or tools you recommend for checking its integrity before relying on it? https://pastebin.com/ZVjAnnpP

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hi there,

Thank you for the log file. It shows me the backup did not complete and gives this reason:

0272.441 (0) Google Drive: Upload exception (Google_Exception): Failed to start the resumable upload (HTTP 403: usageLimits, The user has exceeded their Drive storage quota)

Could you please check your Google Drive space to make sure you have enough available.

    Best regards,

    Nick

    Hi Nick,

Thank you for your response. I checked my Google Drive account, and while the space was limited, there was still enough to accommodate the backup size. However, I also have another site using a different Google Drive account with plenty of free space, and I received a similar error message there: https://pastebin.com/70TmGvM2

Additionally, my server has 2 CPUs and 4GB of RAM running OpenLiteSpeed, and it usually performs very efficiently. Could there be another reason why the backups are failing?

    Looking forward to your insights!

    Hi Nick,

I cleared the Google Drive account that was giving me the error and ran the backup again. Here’s the new log: https://pastebin.com/Er0Lcyd5

Could you please check if the backup was completed successfully this time?

    Thank you for your help!

    Hi Juan,

Thank you for the update and log file. I reviewed the log file, the backup was completed successfully.
There are no items in the log file which would cause concern or affect the integrity of your backups.

    Best regards,

    Nick

    Hi Nick,

Thank you for reviewing the log file and confirming the backup was completed successfully. I just want to clarify—does this confirmation apply to both logs, as I mentioned two different sites in my previous messages?

Also, for future reference, could you guide me on how to properly review the logs myself to ensure the backups have completed without issues? This would be very helpful for troubleshooting on my end.

    Thank you for your support!

    Best regards,
    Juan

    Hi Juan,

I’m sorry, I only checked the log file here: https://pastebin.com/Er0Lcyd5 This one was fine.
The second log file does show a problem, this warning message appears multiple times in it:

18002.667 (10) [Warning] Seu website é visitado com frequência e UpdraftPlus não esta recebendo os recursos que esperava; por favor, leia esta página: https://updraftplus.com/faqs/why-am-i-getting-warnings-about-my-site-not-having-enough-visitors/

There are suggestions to help fix this problem on the page linked in the warning message.
Personally, I use the free service at https://cron-job.org and set up a cron job for 1 minute.

This is what an example cron call looks like: https://example.com/wp-cron.php?doing_wp_cron

When reviewing the log files this is what you want to see at the end of the file, it’s clear why:
0413.732 (0) The backup succeeded and is now complete

Sometimes a log file will have warnings (like the above warning message) which give advice.
Warnings aren’t the same as errors as many of them mean your backups will still complete.

The warning message above is a bit different as it does require some action to avoid issues.
Backups can continue to run with this warning but it’s advisable to follow the advice given.

Errors are the things in the log file which are often show stoppers, backups won’t complete.
They can be ‘out of quota’ messages, like you had, which prevent the plugin from working.

There are a number of possible error messages you can receive, many have detailed info.
Often a simple search on the error message will lead you to an answer somewhere online.

Resumptions, too many of them, often indicate a connection issue. Time outs or failures.
The cause of such issues also varies but it is normally related to resources or security items.

To give a full ‘how to’ on reviewing a log file would take up many pages, this is an overview.
If you have any specific questions please feel free to ask and I will aim to provide an answer.

    Best regards,

    Nick

    Hi Nick,

Thank you for the detailed explanation. I will review the logs again, as my server is supposed to have the cron jobs running correctly.

So, regarding the site “ideiasinteligentes,” it seems that the backup didn’t complete properly, and there might be an issue with it? Should I consider that backup potentially corrupted, or is there a way to safely recover it?

    Thanks again for your help!

    Best regards,
    Juan

    Hi Juan,

Thank you, I hope the information is helpful to you.

Yes, you’re correct. The backup for ideiasinteligentes did not complete correctly.
The warning message about visitor numbers provides some reasoning for this.

You can also confirm the status of the backup in the last few lines of the log file:

18002.686 (10) [Updraftplus] The backup is being aborted for a repeated failure to progress.
18003.257 (10) Sending email (‘Incompleto’) report (attachments: 1, size: 15.8 KB) to:

As the backup is incomplete it would not be useful if you were to restore from it.
Without all the required info it’s difficult to recover this specific backup attempt.

The missing data would have to be added into the backup and it’s a little tricky.
In this case the breaks in the backup mean no files have been created/uploaded.

So effectively there’s nothing there and recovering the backup would be futile.
It would be much better to address the warning and create a fresh new backup.

    Best regards,

    Nick
