I was able to visit the sitemap.
Can you please provide us with screenshots that highlight the issue you are experiencing from Google Search Console? You can use any image-sharing service like https://pasteboard.co/, https://snag.gy/, https://imgur.com/, https://snipboard.io/, or even upload the screenshot to your own website. Once you upload it to an image-sharing service, please share the link to the image here.

the files can be read but appears as a html file.
however i checked the file with seomator and the file appears to be correct

I can confirm your Yoast SEO-generated XML sitemap is in the XML format and what you get from Google is an error. Please delete and re-submit the sitemap.

Kindly know that I have tested the sitemap from sitemap validator and no issue is detected from sitemap. Please check the screenshot.
Can you kindly clear cache and then delete and resubmit the sitemap?
Kindly know that Google Search Console is not real time and crawling can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. So kindly allow Google Search Console some time.
