HTML lang using locale setting instead of language code | WordPress.org

I am running Polylang along with Oxygen Builder, The SEO Framework and Redis caching.

This results with the following lang <html lang=”en-GB” >, I wish to change it to <html lang=”en” > as described in https://www.w3.org/International/questions/qa-html-language-declarations

Is there any way to achieve this with Polylang?

Hello,

This attribute is not directly controlled by Polylang but by the WordPress translation file. See https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/wp/dev/en-gb/default/ (html_lang_attribute). Polylang loads the correct translation file, then WordPress uses it to output the language attribute.
If you have some PHP knowledge, you should be able to change that with the bloginfo filter: https://developer.wordpress.org/reference/hooks/bloginfo/

I will look into it, but should a translation plugin has the very document language declaration solved for good according to best practices?

I will share a viable solution if I found a usable one.
