smf2wp bridge

Simple Machine Forums is favoured as one of the most popular choices for forum software, as too is WordPress in the area of blogging particularly as it’s free and packed with a host of useful features.
For the past few years various coders/developers have been toying with production of a bridge to enable SMF plugin to WordPress without success. It seems a logical choice to combine the two. What intrigues me is that the level of interest on the subject here is almost non existent in comparison to other domains. Bridges exist for all other forum blog combinations excepting SMF to WordPress.
Is there a reason for this and are we likely expect a bridge from wordpress.org in future. The public want both SMF and WordPress but are forced to go elswhere because of this very problem. Surely research in this area would only go to further promote WordPress as the most clever and adaptable of open source packages around.
