start page is blank

Hello,

When i moved my wordpress install from my localhost to another server, everthing works fine but the startpage. It’s just blank. It has it own template, wich works fine on localhost.

Any ideas what might be wrong? Do you need the code for the template?

Thanks but I’ve read that. The only problem is the startpage, the rest works like a charm.

Are you using static page? If yes, have a read of this:

Hmm.. “Do not use a custom Page template for this page!”

But I have made a custom startpage template. Is there no way I can use it?

“Do not use a custom Page template for this page!” is referring to the main posts page (which will use the index.php template file) – not the static front page.

Ok, well my custom template that i use as startpage works fine on localhost. Any ideas what might be the issue?

If the default page template works, then there’s an error in your custom template. A hosted server is likely to be more strictly configured than your local server.

Ok. What kind of errors could cause it not to show at all? Non-closed tags? Javascript? Or is it just PHP errors?

The most likely cause would be a PHP error. Try setting error logging and debug on for your local server.

Well it all works fine on my local server. The problem occurs when I move the page to another host. Should I ask them to turn on error logging and debug so I can find out what’s causing it?

No – start by turning debug on for your local server. You may find that there are errors in there that you didn’t know about. Most hosts have error logs so you may want to see if you have access to them on your hosted server.

Yea it’s my image slideshow php file that i’ve included that’s causing some error. Anyway, thanks a lot for ur time esmi.

Had a very similar problem myself earlier this week. Slideshow worked fine locally but was totally messed up on a remote server. Managed to sort it by tweaking the jQuery script. Hope your fix is as easy.
