Massive DataBase Problems

So, something is causing my database to writ huge numbers of massive files. See this screenshot of my Mysql dir:

Now of course things are totally crashed.

What the heck are these files? What could cause this kind of berserk behavior? I looked inside some of the smaller ones from times past and they seem to be text of posts…
