widgets location on wordpress install

    I am planning to modyfi a widget from a plugin. I have located the widget php file in the wordpress editor, but I want to take a copy and paste the copy into the widgets folder in the wordpress install(on my server) to make a custom version of the widget… is it just to give The php file a new name and move it to a widget folder on wordpress?
    Do anyone know where the widgets are located?
