    Try adding AddType x-mapp-php5 .php to the top of your WordPress .htaccess file.

    sorry to be such a novice — where should the .htaccess file be located? i can’t seem to find one.

    In the folder that contains WordPress. Ensure that whatever you are using to access your hosts FTP is configured to show all files. .htaccess files are often hidden by default.

    it was the php 5 issue and I didn’t have the dot in the htaccess file name. thank you all for your help!!
